ABOUT BRIAN CASHMAN

Hi, I’m Brian

I’m passionate about helping people get out of pain and back to truly living in their bodies.

Growing up, I helped ease my mother’s aches after long days as a seamstress, walking on her back and giving shoulder rubs. Even then, I felt drawn to the way touch could bring comfort and relief.

After earning a degree in graphic design, I realized the work I felt most drawn to was helping people through the body. I returned to school to become a Physical Therapist Assistant, later a Licensed Massage Therapist, and began what became a lifelong study of bodywork and healing.

Bodywork has been part of my life for as long as I can remember

WHERE IT STARTED

Every teacher expanded the way I understood the body

THE TEACHERS WHO SHAPED THE WORK

John F. Barnes began to open my world to what was possible. His Myofascial Release Approach helped me stop thinking of the body as isolated parts and begin seeing it as a whole.

Hugh Gilbert and Kinetic Chain Release showed me another way of understanding how the parts of that whole affect one another. Through Hugh, I was introduced to new ways of thinking about the body and healing, including heart coherence, Postural Energetics, and Hawaiian healing traditions.

Aunty Maile Napoleon taught me lomilomi, how to work with the belly, and something even more important: to bring aloha into every person I touch.

Atarangi Muru expanded my understanding of depth. Through romiromi and Māori healing traditions, she showed me how bodywork can meet the whole person, not only the physical body.

Every teacher expanded the way I understood the body. Eventually, they expanded the way I understood the person.

Over time, these influences stopped feeling like separate techniques. They became part of one way of working: listening closely, seeing the whole, and meeting the person in front of me with what they need.

A practice built through years of study

WHAT I BELIEVE

I don’t believe good bodywork is about forcing change. It is about relationship between practitioner and client, between different parts of the body, and between what you feel and what your body has been trying to communicate.

Sometimes that relationship calls for gentleness. Sometimes it calls for depth. The work is learning to know the difference.

The body isn’t something to conquer

“I don’t work on bodies.
I work with people.”

You don’t need to understand my whole journey to benefit from the work.

WHEN YOU’RE READY

You can come because something hurts. You can come because you feel stuck. You can come because you sense there is more to listen to. We start wherever you are.
